Tamaqua splits doubleheader

The Tamaqua Blue Sox won one of three games over the weekend in Schuylkill-Berks Legion baseball action.

SCHUYLKILL-BERKS LEGIONValley View-TamaquaTamaqua and Valley View split a doubleheader on Sunday. Valley View captured a 12-6 victory in the first game while the Blue Sox held on for a 12-11 win in the second contest.In the opener, Hunter Bordner had three hits and knocked in four runs to lead Valley View. Ross added three hits and three RBIs while Chase Schaeffer finished with two hits, two RBIs and a pair of runs.Pete Baddick had three hits (two doubles), three runs and two RBIs for Tamaqua while Adam Bates had a hit and knocked in two runs. The Blue Sox also received a hit and run scored from Matt Roberts, Brad Fedor and Casey Rother while Ed Titus contributed a hit and RBI.In the second game, Tamaqua trailed 7-0 before exploding for a pair of six-run innings. The Blue Sox then had to hold off a late Valley View charge to gain the one-run victory.Roberts banged out three hits and scored a pair of runs for the winners while Nate MacDonald contributed two hits and two runs. Rother collected a hit and three RBIs with Baddick adding a double, two RBIs and a pair of runs.For Valley View, Schaeffer and Andrew Belding each had three hits.Hamburg-TamaquaTamaqua's Harold Moll turned in a solid effort on the mound Saturday but the Blue Sox dropped a 3-2 decision to Hamburg.Moll went the distance, allowing just six hits and three runs. He gave up two walks and struck out a pair.Ed Titus slugged a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the score at 2-2, but Hamburg pushed across the game-tying and eventual winning run in the top of the sixth.Tamaqua, which was held to just three hits, also received a double from Pete Baddick.For Hamburg, Ryan Atkinson hit a two-run homer and Ryan Smith added an RBI single. Tyler Seidel also had two hits and scored a pair of runs.
