Speed was a factor in a crash involving a motorcycle and deer that occurred Sunday along East White Bear Drive in Summit Hill.
Borough police said Richard Brown, 32, of 43 W. Marconi Avenue, Nesquehoning, was driving a Yamaha bike eastbound at 8:04 p.m. at a high rate of speed when a deer entered the road in front of him.Police said the bike struck the deer, cutting it in half.Brown and the bike slid a distance before coming to rest along the berm. Brown was injured and taken to a Lehigh Valley area hospital for treatment.Witnesses told police that Brown was speeding at the time of the crash. Charges are pending completion of the investigation, police added.Borough police were assisted by Jim Thorpe police. Also, the Diligent Fire Company and fire police maintained traffic control at the scene, shutting down the roadway for a period time.
