Concourse Club set to follow the Yellow Brick Road

The Concourse Club of Palmerton invites the community to Palmerton's premier Movie in the Park, to be shown at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the borough park.

Featuring the timeless classic, "The Wizard of Oz," the club is hosting the free event to celebrate its 100th anniversary.The movie will be displayed on a giant inflatable screen. Moviegoers should be sure to bring a blanket or their preferred chairs, snacks, and drinks. All regular park rules, such as no alcohol, pets, or smoking apply.If a rain date is necessary, the movie will be held at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. The decision to postpone due to weather concerns will be posted on the club's website at

www.concourseclub.org, and on Facebook at 4:30 p.m. Saturday."'The Wizard of Oz'" was chosen as the inaugural movie in the park due to its wide appeal across generations. Its age, released 76 years ago, is a testament to the movie's lasting endurance in the same way that the Concourse Club is celebrating its Centennial year," said club President, Lisa Snell Kern."There's an excitement in the community about the movie and we're hoping that young and old come out for a great time."The club is also hoping to increase awareness of its activities through this event."Our roster of members exceeds 130 dedicated women, but we're always looking for new members and new ideas," said Snell Kern.Those interested in more information should visit the group's web site.Since 1989, club-led improvements to the borough park total $255,124.Concourse Club past presidents have led projects such as the renovation of the bandstand and its landscaping, benches, and pathways; adding vintage lights, a security camera, and tree plantings; and hosting the annual Summer Concerts in the Park.
