Rig dumps load of watermelons

A tractor-trailer crashed in Schuylkill County on Monday morning dumping its load of watermelons.

State police at Frackville said Jesus A. Almaguer, 37, of Clearwater, Florida, was driving a 2000 Freightliner tractor with seimi-trailer southbound on Highridge Road, in Cass Township, about 6:20 a.m., going down a steep decline. As Almaguer approached the stop sign at the intersection with Valley Road, he was unable to stop in time and went into the intersection.The rig left the road on the south side and ran through the guard rail along Valley Road. The rig then rolled onto its passenger side and came to rest along Valley Road with its cargo dumped into the wooded area along the road.Almaguer managed to get out of the vehicle on his own and was later transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-E. Norwegian St., Pottsville, for treatment of minor injuries, troopers said. The rig had to be towed from the scene.Troopers cited Almaguer for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.
