The Lewistown Valley Garden Club met May 26 with President Kathy McGee conducting the business meeting. Guest speaker was Regina Kromer, a master gardener with the Schuylkill Master Gardener Program. She spoke about using compressed disks for starting seeds and offered numerous other gardening tips.Club members discussed the annual Schuylkill County Fair, which will be held from July 27 through Aug. 1.Joan Fritz and Charlotte Lorah served as the lunch committee.The next meeting will be held on June 23 in the social hall.Summer readingThe Tamaqua Public Library will hold summer reading programs for children of all ages.The summer reading program for children between the ages of 2 and 12, "Every Hero Has A Story," will be offered on different days and times in order to reach the most readers. This program will begin the week of June 22 and continue through July 27.For ages 6 to 12, sessions will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Mondays.For the younger group, ages 2 to 5, sessions will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.Each session will feature stories, snacks, crafts and games. The class will begin at 5 p.m.Seating is limited. To register, contact Ben Shafer at 570-778-1044.There is a fee to cover the cost of training material.Calvary EvangelicalPastor Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Children and Youth Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, a "carry-in" covered dish picnic luncheon will be held following the service.An hour of praise and prayer is held at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.St. Peter's UnionSunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church in Mantzville. This Sunday's service will include a joyous noise offering. Summer Sunday school will be held at 10:15 a.m.Activities for next week include: Monday, softball games at 6:45 and 8 p.m. at the West Penn Grove; Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m.Zion LewistownPastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include graduate recognition. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:15 a.m.St. John UCCThe Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ. Special music will be presented by Diane Johnson.Weekly Bible study sessions are held at 7 p.m. Thursdays.
