Busy weekend for Tamaqua

The Tamaqua Legion baseball team had a busy weekend, playing one game Saturday and then a doublheader on Sunday.

SCHUYLKILL-BERKS LEGIONTamaqua-KutztownNate McDonald's walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Tamaqua a 3-2 victory Kutztown on Saturday.McDonald's hit was his third of the game and scored Joe Heery with the winning run.Harold Moll added two hits for Tamaqua and also knocked in a run.Ed Titus fanned two in a scoreless inning of relief to pick up the pitching victory. Tamaqua starter Adam Bates allowed just five hits in six innings of work and struck out nine.Tamaqua-FleetwoodFleetwood swept a doubleheader from Tamaqua on Sunday. Fleetwood won by scores of 10-5 and 4-3.Fleetwood was holding a one-run leading heading into the seventh inning of the opener before a four-run eruption blew the game open. Ed Titus had two hits and two RBIs for Tamaqua in the loss. Peter Baddick added a hit, an RBI and two runs scored; Jake Humes had a double and scored twice; and Cy Rother had a hit and also knocked in a run.In the second game, Fleetwood scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to rally for the victory.Adam Bates had three hits and an RBI for Tamaqua. Matt Roberts added a hit and three runs scored while Peter Baddick had a hit and an RBI.KEYSTONESENIOR BRShockers-MustangsThe Franklin Township Shockers blew open a close game with a six-run explosion in their fial atbat as they defeated the East Stroudsburg Mustangs, 10-3.Cody Scherer scattered five hits and allowed just two earned runs in a complete-game pitching performance for the Shockers.Scherer also had three hits at the plate. He knocked in a run and scored a run. Also contributing offensively for the Shockers were Brody Hydro (three hits, two RBIs); Taylor David two hits, RBI); Ryan McCullough (two hits, two runs); Gabe Wagner (double, RBI, run scored); Jordan Knappenberger (single, RBI, run scored).BLUE MOUNTAINYankees-BravesThe Northern Yankees blanked the Berlinsville Braves, 3-0.Hebert outdueled Zack Svetik to get the pitching victory. Hebert allowed just four hits in seven shutout innings and struck out nine. Svetik allowed just two earned runs in six-and-a-third innings of work. He struck out seven.The loss drops the Braves' record to 2-8. The Yankees, who got a pair of hits and an RBI from Jacen Nalesnik, improve to 7-3.
