A deer entering the roadway was blamed for a one-vehicle crash along Interstate 81 in Mahanoy Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said Ellen M. Babuscak, 68, of Wilkes-Barre, was driving a 2011 Buick Lacrosse southbound at 6:12 a.m. on Thursday when she swerved to avoid a deer. She could not avoid the animal and struck it.Babuscak injured her thumb but refused medical treatment. Damages to the vehicle included the engine compartment. The Buick had to be towed.
