Adult Day Care

The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center will be celebrating summer with a make your own ice cream sundae party on June 24.Other activities for this month include: Monday, craft day hot air balloons; June 10 special breakfast and spa day; June 12 indoor golf; June 17 Salvation Army service; June 23 baking class; June 26 singalong with Audrey Christ; June 30 painting class.The center also offers weekly singalongs, exercise sessions, a variety of therapies and social games. Breakfast, lunch and a snack are served daily.Anyone interested in obtaining more information about the center or services provided may call 570-668-6577 or visit Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.Senior citizensThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met May 28 at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St. The meeting was attended by 65 members.President Melody Weicker conducted the business session, and secretary Ruthann Feane provided the inspirational reading, "Things Worthwhile."Faye Sweeney and Rosetta Folk were welcomed back.Upcoming activities will include: a Chinese auction at the Thursday meeting; trip to the Mohegan Sun on June 15; farm market vouchers to be distributed on June 17 at the Tamaqua Salvation Army; and flu shots to be given in September.The group meets at 1 p.m. every Thursday. The next meeting will be on June 4.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The YMCA is handicap accessible.CPR trainingSt. John United Church of Christ, 150 Pine St., is hosting a CPR certification class on June 25. The class will begin at 5 p.m.Seating is limited. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. The later service will include graduate recognition and commissioning for the Big Creek Mission Trip.Also on Sunday, a prayer event will be held at 6:30 p.m. and the district hymn sing will be held at 7 p.m. in Weissport.Activities for next week include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., TYM staff meeting at 8 p.m.Calvary EvangelicalPastor Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include Holy Communion and graduate recognition. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, a time of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m.The Lewistown Valley Bible School will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m., beginning Monday.
