Three people were seriously injured Sunday evening in a violent head-on crash alone Route 209 in Mahoning Township.

The crash occurred at 6 p.m. near the intersection with Packerton Dam Road.

The crash involved a pickup truck and a sedan. The injured were extricated from the wreckage by members of the Lehighton fire department.

Due to the violent weather in the area no medical transport helicopters were able to fly. Several of the injured were transported by Lehighton paramedics to the Lehigh Valley Hospital Trauma Center in Allentown.

Mahoning Township police are investigating the incident.
