Summer reading

The Tamaqua public Library will host six weeks of summer reading fun for children between the ages of 2 and 12.The summer reading program, "Every Hero Has A Story," will be offered on different days and times in order to reach the most readers.For ages 6 to 12, sessions will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Mondays.For the younger group, ages 2 to 5, sessions will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.Each session will feature stories, snacks, crafts and games. There will also be prizes awarded for reading.For more information, or to register, call 570-668-4660.Diabetes supportThe next meeting of St. Luke's Miners diabetes support group will be on Tuesday. The meeting will be held at 1 p.m. in the ground floor community room of the hospital in Coaldale.Topics are based on ways to improve blood sugar control and quality of life. Meetings include a question-and-answer period.Reservations are not required and there are no fees. For more information, call 570-645-8107.St. Peter's UnionSunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church in Mantzville. Sunday school meets at 10:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the Cub Scouts will hold a bike rodeo at 6 p.m.Activities for next week include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., picnic planning committee meets at 6 p.m.; Friday, contemporary worship planning meeting at 6 p.m.Holy Communion will be celebrated during the June 7 worship service.St. John LutheranThe Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Holy Trinity Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.The service will include Holy Communion, senior recognition and the presentation of Sunday school awards and scholarships.Also on Sunday, a special congregational meeting will be held following the worship service.The Allegro Bell Choir will rehearse after Sunday's service and at 10 a.m. on June 6.Zion LewistownPastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Holy Grounds Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. Coffee and refreshments will be served before the service.Also on Sunday, Sunday school classes will be held at 9:15 a.m. and a congregational meeting will be held after the worship service.Zion's Old fashioned Picnic will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on June 6 with a special performance by the Cressona Band.Bible study sessions are held at 12:30 p.m. Thursdays.Next Thursday, the Confirmation class will meet at 6:30 p.m. for rehearsal.St. John UCCThe Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ.Sunday school and the fellowship hour have been suspended for the summer and will resume in the fall.Upcoming events will include bell choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
