Take a load off with The Weight

Come and take a load off June 12 at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe with The Weight.

Replicating the music of The Band is a tall order. But interpreting the music of The Band is an art. Songs that have reverberated across history for decades continue to speak to millions of us.The Weight, a five-piece ensemble featuring Jim Weider and Randy Ciarlante from The Band, Brian Mitchell and Byron Isaacs of the Levon Helm Band and Marty Grebb, who worked with Rick Danko and Richard Manuel of The Band, remains a vehicle through which we can continue to share those stories and dance to those back beats.Weider, on vocals and guitar, replaced Robbie Robertson as lead guitar in the second incarnation of The Band from 1985 until 2000.In addition to being a songwriter, he also performed on their three studio albums: "Jericho," "High On The Hog" and "Jubilation."Along with Garth Hudson, Levon Helm and Danko, he toured within the U.S. and internationally, as well as appearing with them in numerous films, videos and on TV.Ciarlante, vocals and drums, drummed and sang alongside Helm in the second incarnation of The Band and up until Helm's passing, he double-drummed in The Levon Helm Band.He played drums with Helm and sang on several of The Band's albums, circa 1990s. He also leads his own band, CKS.Mitchell, who performs vocals, piano, B3, accordion and harmonica, played in the Levon Helm Band and continues to take his place at the piano, B3 and accordion in the Midnight Ramble Band.He is well-known and respected within the music industry and beyond for his solo career and for his high-profile collaborations. Mitchell has recorded and performed with artists such as Bob Dylan, Al Green, BB King and countless others.Isaacs, vocals and bass, also plays with the Midnight Ramble Band, as well as Dirt Farmer Band, and with his own band, Ollabelle. He is a well-respected singer/songwriter and has written songs that appear on Helm's Grammy-winning CDs, "Dirt Farmer" and "Electric Dirt."The lead vocals, harmonies and steady bass lines for which Isaacs has become known also shape the gospel-infused feel that drives Ollabelle.Isaacs has played some of the world's most famous concert halls with some of contemporary music's biggest names including a gig at Carnegie Hall with Bruce Springsteen. Isaacs has also performed with Joan Baez, Willie Nelson, Ryan Adams, Elvis Costello, Diana Krall, Emmylou Harris, Sheryl Crow and Donald Fagen, to name a few.Grebb, who performs vocals, B3, piano, accordion and saxophone, is a former member of the Fabulous Rhinestones, Chicago and The Buckinghams. He has also played with The Rick Danko Band, Eric Clapton, Leon Russell, Bonnie Raitt, Etta James, Gregg Allman and Bonnie Bramlett. Grebb also wrote songs for The Band, appearing on the "Jericho" CD, and performed with The Band on their "Jubilation CD."Doors open at 6 p.m. Showtime is 8 p.m. Seating is general admission. Tickets are $17 in advance and $22 the day of the show. For more information, visit
