One-vehicle crash in Nesquehoning

A Lehighton man has been cited by Nesquehoning police following a one-vehicle crash on Sunday.

According to Police Chief Sean Smith, the crash occurred along Route 209 between Nesquehoning and Jim Thorpe just before 10 a.m. on Sunday.Upon arrival at the scene, Smith saw a 2001 Ford Taurus, driven by Jason M. Schramak, 29, of 127 Jamestown St., on the side of the roadway. He approached the driver and asked if he was hurt and needed an ambulance. Schramak refused medical treatment.Through discussions with the driver and examination of the scene, Smith determined that Schramak was heading south at a speed higher than the posted limit when he started playing with his radio. The vehicle then traveled into the gravel on the berm and Schramak lost control, striking the guardrail, ripping it from the ground.The vehicle showed moderate to severe damage to the front driver's side of the vehicle and was not driveable. It was towed from the scene by Marouchoc's Auto.Schramak was cited for careless driving and driving on roadways laned for traffic.
