Schuylkill hires lawn service company

Schuylkill County commissioners on Thursday hired a Pine Grove company to mow and brush cut four county-owned dams for this year and next at a cost of $12,950.

The agreement requires the dams to be mowed and brush cut two times per year.The county sent proposals four landscape/lawn service companies, and Ted Butler's Lawnmowing was the only bidder.The other companies were Womer's Landscaping, Pottsville; Pine Creek Landscaping, Friedensburg; and Sunnyside Lawn Service, New Ringgold.In other matters, commissioners approved 10 people as Juvenile Probation site supervisors at a per unit rate of $12 retroactive to May 1.They are: Shawn Houser, Alexa Wallauer, and Brett Lindenmuth, all of Ashland; Caitlin Goodman and Wesley Price, both of Pottsville; Keandra Koons and Brett Kreiser, both of Pine Grove; Christopher Palubinsky of Ringtown; Brandon Swantek of Lost Creek, and John Mika of Tower City.Also on Wednesday, commissioners approved the advertisement for the first public meeting for the 2015 Community Development Block Grant program for West Penn Township.West Penn's grant is $80,000. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. June 1 at the West Penn Township municipal building, on Municipal Road.In other business, commissioners approved paying PCORP for the contract period of June 1 to June 1, 2016 for a total cost of $430,205.PCORP, the Pennsylvania Counties Risk Pool, is the liability insurance provider available through the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania..The premium is reduced by $31,205 from last year's premium.Under the agreement, the county will pay $172,081 on June 1; $129,062 on Sept. 1; and the remaining $129,062 on Dec. 1.The commissioners' public meeting scheduled for 10 a.m. May 27 will be held in the Pine Grove Area High School auditorium, 101 School Street, Pine Grove.
