Police locate Lansford man charged with shooting girlfriend

A Lansford man who shot his girlfriend several times then shot himself in the head and vanished while recovering at his mother's house has been found in Virginia.

Levi Zagata was taken into custody by the Accomack County Sheriff's Department, Lansford police said.

Police were notified at 1:45 a.m. May 20 that Zagata was in custody as a fugitive from justice and was being held in the county prison.

Zagata is charged with criminal attempt at homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, and terroristic threats stemming from the incident on Feb. 14, 2014.

Police say Zagata and Melissa Price had been arguing when he shot her three times. He then called 911 to report the shooting, and met police at his front door, holding a pillow over his face to stanch the bleeding.

The couple's four young children were home at the time.

Both he and Price were hospitalized in critical condition.
