May 20, 2000 Tamaqua's Noel Powell wins three individual gold medals and adds a fourth in a relay during the District 11 Class AA track and field championships. Powell captures the 100 in 10.84 seconds and the 200 in 22.34. He leaps 22-2 1/2 to claim the long jump title and runs a leg of the Raiders' winning 400 relay team. Tamaqua's Liz Manness sets a new district record of 2:18.74 in winning the 800 and also claims the 3200 in 1:59.94. She adds a third goal by being part of Tamaqua's 3200 relay team. Other TN area golds are won by Marian's Stan Dakosty (400), Northern Lehigh's Matt Oertner (800), Panther Valley's Kerry Frak (110 HH) and Palmerton's Travis Hand (discus).
