FBI wraps up investigation in Summit HIll

The FBI and special teams have finished their investigation on site on the 400 block in Summit Hill.

"Everything's wrapped up here. The rapid response is there now to clean up. The FBI is finished with what they're doing," said Mark Nalesnik, director of the Carbon County Emergency Management Agency.

While officials would not say exactly what was found in the house at 416 W. Ludlow Street, Nalesnik said, "(Hydrochloric and sulfuric acids) are two of the items (found in the house). It's not illegal to have them, but they were among other things that are illegal to have," Nalesnik said.

Constable candidate Jude Yuricheck's father, Paul Yuricheck, discovered questionable items in the basement of their home at 416 W. Ludlow St. at about 10 p.m. Thursday night.

Nalesnik said earlier today, "They are doing the same things that were being done yesterday, only on a bigger scale. They brought more FBI agents from the DC area, and they've upscaled their operation."

The Allentown Bomb Squad was also called to the scene.

"There are several operations going on at different locations on the property. Yesterday, they were working with one team at a time. Now, there are multiple teams working at the same time," he said.

"Once (FBI officials) are finished with their investigation, and all the necessary steps have been taken, they will release information," he said.

Nalesnik said that the items that were discovered in the home are being analyzed.

"They are in containers and packages that are marked, that are labeled. They have to determine whether that's actually what's in the containers. It's a slow and tedious process, and there's a ton of work that needs to be done with each individual material that's been found. It takes a long time, and that's why we're here so long," he said.

Nalesnik said an impending thunderstorm had the people even busier, setting up tents and making sure all the equipment and materials from the house are protected from rain.

Local police called the state police bomb unit after seeing the items.

Carbon County Emergency Management Coordinator Mark Nalesnik said Friday "possible bomb-making" items had been found in the basement, but there was no bomb. Officials said some of the items were legal, but others were not.

Although the block was cordoned off by yellow tape and orange cones, residents were not evacuated.

At about 10 a.m. today, the FBI and others rolled up to the house from the staging area at the Diligence Fire Company, and few blocks east. They unloaded black cases, set up blue plastic tents, an inflated white plastic tent, and a row of folding chairs.
