Concessions will be available.Safety FairGFWC Western Pocono Women's Club, a service organization in the West End for 40-plus years, is co-sponsoring its fourth annual free Child Safety Fair with the West End Park and Open Space Commission.It will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 30 at the Chestnuthill Township Park on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.The Pennsylvania State Police fingerprint children. West End Ambulance and West End Fire Company will be present to tour their respective vehicles and trucks. A Fire Safety House or simulated Smoke House from Tobyhanna Army Depot will be available to demonstrate safe ways to escape a house fire and Pocono Medical Center will check blood pressure and child car seats.General health information providers and a dietitian will be available. Representatives from the West End Health Care Center will be present as well. Fitness Instructor Leslie Glover will do exercise demonstrations with the children. The old Eldred school was filled with people, music, and memories as former faculty, students, and staff viewed old photos on the bulletin boards and toured their former classrooms.The community room, art room and music room were open for business, and the great music from the band Last One Standing echoed in the halls. The YMCA did a spectacular job of providing information and demonstrations of their available classes and services. Friends and neighbors visited and remembered their days at the old school.Township leaderships says it appreciates the contributions, feedback, and most importantly, the community's presence at the open house.Concert setA musical concert by Joel Ivins will be presented at McMichaels UMC from 6 to 8 p.m. May 23. It will be Joel's last concert with the church. A free will offering will be accepted for his expenses.It will be Ivins' last Sunday as praise team leader at the 9:30 p.m. service on May 24, including a celebration of his contribution to the church immediately following worship in the parish hall as the church family and friends give Ivins a proper send off to California to see his parents.Rotary leadershipThe West End Rotary Club has announced its newly nominated leadership for the 2015-2016 program year.
