Lehighton stadium bid opening postponed until Monday

The deadline to submit bids for a multi-purpose athletic stadium in Lehighton has been pushed back until Monday at 2 p.m.

Bids were originally scheduled to be opened Wednesday at 2 p.m., but Lehighton Area School District Superintendent Jonathan Cleaver said he wanted to give potential bidders more time to access the site."They had limited access to the facility because we didn't want them there when students were around," Cleaver said. "Now track season is over and they will have an extra weekend to get out to the site when there are no activities happening."Lehighton currently plays its home football games near the middle school, but the multi-purpose field would be located between the administration building and high school, along Indian Lane.Plans include replacing the athletic grass field with an artificial turf field inside the existing track; constructing a visitor and home grandstand, press box, 62-foot by 260-foot field house, 42-foot by 74-foot restroom/maintenance building, a 119-vehicle paved parking lot and a 100-vehicle grass overflow lot; and installing a new lighting system for the field and paved parking areas.Bids will be separated into categories including general construction, electrical construction, and mechanical and plumbing construction, according to a legal advertisement.During discussion of the project, district officials have estimated work at the stadium will total around $5 million.
