Dear editor,

It was one of the presidential candidates, years ago, whose campaign coined the phrase "It's the economy, stupid."That phrase still echoes today. Why isn't Carbon County a great place for big business, warehouses, etc. to locate to? We have plenty of available land, an abundant, underemployed workforce, lower taxes for business than nearby localities, and access to major transportation routes and railroads.The answer is that they need to be recruited to the county. As I see it, our elected county commissioners have been a total failure in this, the number one issue. We don't need them in photo opportunities with Boy Scouts, firefighters, and pets for adoption. We need them to go out and make a difference in this county. The status quo is getting old.That is why I suggest that we, the voters, send them all home. They have been there way too long with no significant results. The economy of Carbon County can't be improved with these commissioners as our CEOs.Again, think about this. Why is Carbon County not a terrific area for industry or warehousing? No efforts, no results.Time to replace all three. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing, over and over, but expecting a different result.John FergusonTowamensing Township
