May 5, 1998 Five Lehighton and three Pleasant Valley individuals win gold medals at the Mountain Valley Conference Track and Field Championships. The Indian boys, who finish second in the team standings, receive firsts from Mike Quinn (100), Jeff Siglin (discus) and David Muffley (long jump). Quinn and Muffley also team with Norm Frey and Chris Risteter to win the 400 relay. Lehighton girls to earn gold medals include Shawnee Serfass (200) and Maria Merluzzi (javelin). PV's trio of Lauren Kelchner (400), LaToya Peterkin (triple jump) and Tara Morris (high jump) also gain first-place finishes.
