Lehighton middle school concert

The Lehighton Area Middle School music department will be holding its 22nd annual spring instrumental concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The free concert will take place in the middle school auditorium. The public is invited.The jazz ensemble, under the direction of Thomas Weidner, will begin the program.The jazz ensemble will perform Mike Story's "Basie-cally The Blues." Seventh-grader Calvin Maholick will be featured on this selection.Next, the band will perform Les Brown's "Leap Frog" with a special surprise at the end. Seventh-graders Aidan Malloy and Aaron Bauer will perform solos on this selection.The jazz ensemble will conclude their portion of the program with the youth anthem and Beatles hit, "Twist and Shout."The fifth- and sixth-grade band, under the direction of Weidner, will perform next."Achievement," composed by Sandy Feldstein and Larry Clark, will be their first selection.Next, the band will perform "Crescent Moon" composed by Michael Story. The band will conclude its portion of the program with a new twist on an old song, "This Old Dude."The seventh- and eighth-grade band, under the direction of Beth Hudlow, will perform several selections.The band will begin its portion of the program with a modern number titled "Prelude and Dance" by Elliot Del Borgo.Next, the band will perform a unique original with a Spanish flair titled, "El Espiritu de Valencia." The band will also perform a medley titled "Blazing Bones of the West" featuring excerpts from "The Magnificent Seven," "How the West Was Won" and "Blazing Saddles.""American Images" is a medley consisting of three familiar folk songs."Advance March," a nearly 100-year-old classic composed by Harold Bennett (aka Henry Fillmore), will be its final selection.
