Soup social

Monthly soup socials are being held at Trinity United Church of Christ, 22 Lafayette St. The next outreach social will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday. The event is part of Trinity's monthly "Feeding the Hungry" program.The public is welcome to attend and share in the free soup, friendship and God's love. Those attending are reminded to use the lower parking lot entrance into Founder's Hall.Day of prayerBethany Evangelical Congregational will be hosting a National Day of Prayer Event on May 7. This year's theme is "Lord, Hear Our Cry," based on 1 Kings 8:28.A bill establishing the National Day of Prayer was signed in 1952 by U.S. President Harry S. Truman, to be set each year by the sitting president.In 1988, the law was amended, establishing the first Thursday in May for the observance.Tamaqua's event will be held at noon at Tamaqua Borough Hall, 320 E. Broad St. The public is welcome to attend.Garden workshopThe Schuylkill County Penn State Master Gardeners program is hosting a walking workshop designed to help residents improve their gardening skills.The walk will be held this Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Tuscarora State Park.Anyone interested in participating in this 1 mile hike, along an easy trail, is to meet at the Day Use Area before 10 a.m.Naturalist Robin Tracy and several master gardeners will point out the native plants and provide information on how they can be used in the home garden.Zion's Stone ChurchZion's Stone Church, 45 Cemetery Road in New Ringgold, will celebrate its 225th anniversary this Sunday.Geoffrey Brace, member of the board of directors of the Penn Northeast Conference of the UCC, will be the guest speaker at the 9 a.m. service.The public is welcome to attend.St. Peter's UnionSunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church in Mantzville. This Sunday's service will include Holy Communion.Sunday school meets at 10:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 11:30 a.m.; bell choir practice is at 6 p.m.; Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadets and Cub Scouts all meet at 6 p.m.Activities for next week include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m.; Wednesday, cherub choir rehearsal at 6:30 p.m., junior choir practice at 7 p.m., senior choir meets at 7:30 p.m.Calvary EvangelicalPastor Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:15 a.m.A Bible study session will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. The guild will meet at 7 p.m. in the social hall on May 7.
