April 25, 1953 Lansford and Coaldale both have mile relay teams compete at the 59th running of the Penn Relays. The Lansford foursome of John Gallagher, John Kanuch, Danny Leonard and John Hlubik complete the race in a time of 3:45 to place fifth in their heat. The Tigers end their heat in seventh place, turning in a time of 3:57. Their runners included Charlie Miller, Pete Julo, Bill Watkins and Joe Sloboda. Julo's quarter time of 55.6 is the best among the eight locals.
