Schuylkill approves $115K for computers

Schuylkill County commissioners on Wednesday approved the purchase of $115,116 worth of computers and a $26,092 car for the Office of Senior Services.

The purchase includes 25 desktop computers, 31 laptop computers, and six printers from Dell Computer Systems, and four Surface Pros from CDW Government. The purchaes were made through state COSTARS vendors. The car is a 2015 Ford Fusion from Tom Masano Ford, an approved COSTARS vendor.COSTARS is a program in which the state Department of General Services prenegotiates contracts for local governments.The costs of all of the purchases is covered by the program's funding and not through the county's general fund.In other matters, commissioners awarded a $36,675 contract to Dallago Backhoe Service for a 2012 Community Development Block Grant stormwater drainage improvement project in Mahanoy Township.Commissioners also renewed a contract with Doculynx for three years at $2,400 a year beginning June 1 to place tax bill assessments on disc for anyone to review.They also extended a May 9, 2012, contract with Nestor Resources to help the Office of Solid Waste and Recycling to Dec. 31. The company will help the county upgrade its solid waste plan, prepare a 901 grant application, form a county solid waste advisory committee, and obtain state Department of Environmental Protection approval for those projects.Commissioners also approved a $595,421 reduction in the county workers compensation trust. County Administrator Mark Scarbinsky said because the number of claims has dropped, that money is now freed for other uses.In personnel moves, commissioners accepted the retirement as of April 30 of human resources benefits administrator Sally Weisacosky of Walker Township and promoted Angel Burnham-Mitchell of Mahanoy City to the job as of May 1. Weisacosky earned $38,569 a year. Burnham-Mitchell will earn $37,447.Commissioners also hired three correctional officers at $17.51 an hour, pending approval by the Prison Board at a special meeting today: Ryan Fritzinger of Nesquehoning, Logan Jacoby of Schuylkill Haven, and Michael Conley of Shenandoah.Also, commissioners terminated part-time nurses aide Holly Boltz of Hamburg from Rest Haven; accepted the resignation of part-time security guard Elizabeth Antalosky of Frackville; and promoted Mary Begley of Tamaqua from caseworker 1 to caseworker 2 in the Children and Youth Services Agency, and Brendan Schuettler of North Manheim Township from aging care manager 2 to aging care manager 3 in the Office of Senior Services.
