The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met April 16 at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St.The meeting was attended by 58 members, with President Melody Weicker conducting the business session.Secretary Ruthann Feane provided an inspirational reading, "Spring Fever." Lewis Gordon was added to the sick list. Mary Reed was welcomed back to the group.The next meeting will be at 1 p.m. Thursday. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The YMCA is handicap accessible.Street sweepingThe borough of Tamaqua has resumed weekly street sweeping operations. Several streets in the downtown area are permanently posted for Thursday and Friday street cleaning operations.These streets include Broad, Berwick, Center, Pine, Railroad, Nescopec and Swatara streets, which will be cleaned on Thursday and Friday, beginning at 5 a.m.Additional streets will be posted, advertised and cleaned periodically.Streets will be posted the day before cleaning operations are scheduled. All vehicles must be removed from posted streets. Any vehicle remaining on the street will be ticketed and possibly towed.Property owners and residents are welcome to clean their sidewalks before street sweeping occurs.The schedule is subject to change due to work and weather conditions.More information is available at Tamaqua Borough Hall, 320 E. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school will meet at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the ministry council will meet at 11:45 a.m.Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, sew much more growth group meets at 1 p.m., Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare meets at 7 p.m.; Thursday, lead beyond our walls group meets at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, the art of marriage growth group will meet at 6 p.m.Zion SOSZion Lutheran Church, Greenwood Street, will host its SOS time of food and fellowship this Saturday, following the 5:30 p.m. worship service. The service will include Holy Communion. The light lunch is free and all are welcome.The Saturday service is a mix of traditional and contemporary hymns, music and worship.Calvary EvangelicalFormer Pastor Brian Reading will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, a time of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m.An hour of prayer and praise is held Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
