DUI plea in crash with cyclist

A Carbon County woman who caused a crash which caused serious injuries to a motorcyclist entered a guilty plea in the county court this week to driving under the influence and recklessly endangering another person.

Bonnie Kay Snyder, 53, of Lehighton, admitted causing a crash that occurred on Sept. 27, 2014, along Blakeslee Boulevard Drive in Lehighton.Snyder pulled from the lot of a service station into the path of a motorcycle operated by Ronald Neff. After impact Snyder continued westbound, dragging Neff about 60 feet.Neff was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest for treatment of serious injuries.On Tuesday he told Judge Steven R. Serfass he still has issues with arm and leg injuries sustained in the incident.Snyder was taken for a blood test, which revealed the presence of a controlled substance. She said she was taking prescribed medications but apparently went over the dosage required. She also said she is now receiving mental health counseling.On the DUI charge Serfass sentenced her to serve 72 hours to six months in jail and ordered her to pay a fine of $1,000, have her license suspended for one year, and render 25 hours of community service.On the reckless endangering charge she was placed on probation for 24 months consecutive to the DUI count, and ordered to render an additional 100 hours of community service. She was also ordered to make restitution totaling $687.49.She will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. April 24.
