Woman gets jail for drug dealing

A Carbon County woman was sentenced to a county jail term on Monday after previously pleading guilty to a drug charge.

Stacy Kilpatrick, 30, of Jim Thorpe, was sentenced by Judge Steven R. Serfass to serve three to 18 months in prison on a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance-cocaine.Serfass rejected a plea from defense attorney Gregory Lee Mousseau and Kilpatrick for a probation period because the defendant said she must care for her parents and three children.Mousseau said probation terms have been imposed on cases with more serious consequences than what occurred in this case and asked the court to consider Kilpatrick's family matters.Serfass told Kilpatrick, "I considered what you told me and appreciate the responsibilities you have, but I take these type of charges very seriously because it is a blight on our community." He added, "I do believe a period of incarceration is appropriate."Kilpatrick was arrested on July 2, 2013, in the area of 241 N. First St. in Lehighton by agents of the state Attorney General's office. She sold a gram of cocaine to a confidential informant. In addition to the jail term, Kilpatrick was ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendations for treatment, supply a DNA sample, pay court costs of about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee when released on parole. She was given credit for two days spent in jail on the charge. The jail term begins at 5 p.m. on April 24.
