Mom of disabled son in woods faces attempted murder charge

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia police say a woman accused of dumping her quadriplegic son in the woods so she could spend the week with her out-of-state boyfriend will also face an attempted murder charge.

Police say 41-year-old Nyia Parler remained hospitalized in Maryland on Tuesday for a fourth day.

She's been there for undisclosed reasons since hours after her 21-year-old son was found last Friday in a pile of wet leaves in Philadelphia, next to his wheelchair and a Bible.

Police have said Parler will also face charges including aggravated assault, kidnapping and neglect of a care-dependent person.

Philadelphia police say they don't expect to arrest Parler until she's cleared for release from the hospital and charged in Maryland as a fugitive. They would then seek to have her extradited.
