Habitual offender gets jail term

A Luzerne County man, determined to be a habitual offender by the state department of transportation, was sentenced to a prison term on Monday in Carbon County court.

William Roy Marsh of Freeland was sentenced by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II to serve three to 18 months in the county prison on the habitual offenders charge.Marsh was arrested on Sept. 26, 2014, by state police at Lehighton after being stopped for speeding along Route 248 in Bowmanstown. A records check showed that Marsh was driving with a suspended license. It was further learned that Marsh has 21 previous convictions for driving with a suspended license.Marsh was also ordered to pay court costs of about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee when released on parole. He was granted work release privileges. The term runs concurrent with a prison term he is serving in Luzerne County for another driving under suspension count.
