Older and bolder

The Salvation Army's Older and Bolder group is back in action, meeting at 10 a.m. Wednesdays at the Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St. Meetings include a light luncheon. Jon Bonner of USA Martial Arts will be the guest speaker at the April 15 meeting. He will offer tips on personal protection.Upcoming meetings include: April 22, a discussion on the movie "God's Not Dead" and the upcoming Kidz Karnival by Maj. Sharon Whispell; April 29, a seminar on identity thefts and 2015 scams, presented by Janene Holter.For more information or to join, call Dina at 570-668-0410.Senior driversThe Tamaqua Salvation Army will host AARP Safe Driving classes, full certification and refresher, in April. The classes are open to anyone age 50 orolder.The full certification, eight-hour class will be held in two sessions, from noon to 4 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. The refresher class, which is four hours, will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday.James Greaser will be the instructor for all sessions. The refresher course is available to those who have completed the full certification class within the past 36 months.While membership in AARP is not required, there is a discount for members. There are no tests involved.Participants over 55 who successfully pass the course will be provided with a certificate which will qualify them for a discount with their auto insurer. The certificate is good for a three-year period.Class sizes are limited, so reservations are required.The classes will be held at 105 W.
