Pedestrian struck in Tamaqua

A woman was seriously injured Friday morning when struck by a vehicle traveling the wrong way on a one-way street in Tamaqua. The accident was reported at 6:32 a.m.

Jeannie Marie Novack, 60, of 110 Schuylkill Ave., Tamaqua, was crossing Railroad Street, near the intersection with Broad, when she was struck by a minivan going the wrong way on the southbound only street, which is also Route 309.

The van was being operated by Lillian Rivera of Lil Wolf Drive, Orefield.

Rivera was traveling north on Route 309 and missed the slight turn the road makes onto Mauch Chunk Street.

She will be cited by Tamaqua police, including a charge of driving without a valid license.

Novack, who was in the crosswalk at the time of the incident, was transported by Tamaqua Ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital-Miners Campus in Coaldale.
