Hunger Weekend planned in Tamaqua

The Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network, an affiliate of the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership, is sponsoring its second annual "Hunger Weekend" to help provide food for families, living in the boundaries of the Tamaqua Area School District, that are in need of a helping hand.

Members of TAFFN and The Tamaqua Area Community Partnership are encouraging service organizations, businesses, church groups and individuals to collect food and funds that will be given to the community food banks at the Salvation Army, Primitive Methodist Church and Trinity United Church of Christ, all in Tamaqua, which in turn distribute food to families that need help. The date for the weekend is May 2 and 3 with rain dates of May 16 and 17. Hunger Weekend culminates on Sunday, May 3, with the Tamaqua Hunger Walk. Walkers will meet at St. Luke's Tamaqua Family Practice parking lot on South Railroad and walk to the Tamaqua Insurance Center, a distance of approximately 1 mile. Those choosing to walk will ask people to sponsor them. For more information or for participation and donation forms, visit
