Cleanup, recycling day set in Towamensing Township

An announcement was made at the Towamensing Township supervisors meeting on April 2 that cleanup days are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 30 and 31 for electronics and large items that are not picked up at the regular garbage pickup.

Everything is free with the exception of tube-type televisions, $30; televisions in wooden cabinets, $50; tube-type CRT monitors, $10; LCD monitors and LCD and plasma televisions, $5; air conditioners, $20; dehumidifiers, $20; refrigerators, $20; and floor freezers, $20. Also, hard drive destruction at $10 per drive and document destruction at $10 per paper-size box are available, both with certificates of destruction. Payment is by check and cash only.Road crew members will help unload.Matt George gave a report on plans for the recreation fields. The season will open April 24.After the games, banners honoring last year's champions will be unveiled.In a girls vs. boys game the girls will wear pink T-shirts with Towamensing Little League in blue and the boys will have blue shirts with pink lettering.Spring training has begun by taking the players to the Pyramid Fitness Center in Lehighton. They are going to seek donations for dugouts.At least five loads of infield mix are needed on the new field at $900 per load.Seifert said the weeds had to be killed on the bank using 2-4D at the parking area and a better-looking ground cover should be planted.George said lights need to be replaced, and Seifert said he had the equipment to do anything up to 60 feet off the ground.In other business: The new zoning ordinance was passed at a special meeting March 16.Lakeview Estates passed inspection with the exception of cleanup and stabilization, which will be done in spring. The letter of credit was reduced to $17,000.The Woods Campground final conditional approval was given. The conditions are for an improvement agreement with an aquifer evaluation and a maintenance agreement. Woods was given 120 days to meet the conditions.Kim Bedio was named part-time office help two days a week or as needed at $11 per hour.Joint appeals board fees were raised from $1,000 to $3,000.The annual Government Day, run by Connie Bieling and Roy Christman, is set for April 24. There will be special emphasis on the recycling program.The Girl Scouts asked for permission to camp out on the ballfield on May 8. Troops 3580 and 3127 will repeat last year's cleanup and flower planting at the municipal building.A 1991 GMC tandem dump truck will be sold through Municibid. Government agencies can sell through the online group, and anyone can purchase through it.The road crew is working on potholes, trimming trees and inspecting pipes.A resident asked that people with reusable packaging material such as unmarked cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, packing peanuts and foam contact the office and he will pick it upZoning hours are 5-7 p.m. Wednesday and April 15, 22 and 29.
