                April 3, 1951 The Philadelphia Basketball Writers Association name Temple's Bill Mlkvy the nation's outstanding college basketball player of the year at their fifth annual banquet. Mlkvy, a graduate of Palmerton, finished the season as the NCAA Division I's leader in scoring average. The "Owl without a Vowel" scored 731 points in 25 games to post a 29.2 points per game average. The former Blue Bomber also ranked second in the nation in rebounds, at 18.9 per contest, and assists, at 7.0 per game. Mlkvy was also an AP All-American selection.
