Eight placed in probation program

Eight first-time offenders in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program on Thursday by Judge Joseph J. Matika.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program, their record is wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it, or are revoked from it, then they would face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.Joseph James Hargett Jr., 21, of Lansford, and Brandon Jonathan Lemons, 19, of Albrightsville, were both placed for six months on a charge of loitering or prowling at night.Both were arrested on Nov. 29, 2014, by Lansford police for an incident in the 200 block of East Kline Avenue.Each was assessed $450 for the cost of the program and both were ordered to render 25 hours of community service.Christopher John Felker, 40, of Easton, was placed for a year on a driving under the influence charge. He was arrested on Aug. 15, 2014, along Patterson Street by Lansford police. A test showed 0.19 BAC.He was assessed $550, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 60 days.Candace S. Lloyd, 39, of Blakeslee, was placed for a year on a DUI charge. She was arrested on Feb. 16, 2013, along Blakeslee Boulevard by Mahoning Township police. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.She was assessed $650, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and her license was suspended for 60 days.Thomas Christopher Mohn, 21, of Mohrsville, Berks County, was placed for six months on a charge of possession of marijuana. He was arrested on Dec. 13, 2014, along Route 209 by Nesquehoning police.He was assessed $450 and ordered to render 25 hours of community service.Felicia C. Porter, 26, of Palmerton, was placed for two years on a charge of conspiracy to manufacture, delivery or possession of a controlled substance-suboxone.She was arrested by Nesquehoning police on Aug. 3, 2014, in the 200 block of West Catawissa Street.She was assessed $450, ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendations for treatment, have zero tolerance on D&A use, and must render 100 hours of community service.Anthony Joseph Rohlfing Jr., 29, of Lansford, was placed for a year on a DUI charge. He was arrested on May 1, 2014, along Route 209 by Nesquehoning police. A test showed 0.14 BAC.He was assessed $650, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 30 days.Joseph Zeigler Jr., 46, of Weatherly, was placed for a year on a DUI charge. He was arrested on Oct. 12, 2014, along South Lehigh Gorge Drive in Lehigh Township by state police at Hazleton after crashing his motorcycle. He was injured and taken to St. Luke's University Hospital-Bethlehem Campus.He was assessed $650, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 60 days.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program.
