Woman dropped from bank robbery case over police statement while high

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Bank robbery charges against a suburban Philadelphia woman have been dismissed after her lawyer said police took her statement without proper consent while she was high on cocaine.

Federal prosecutors moved Wednesday to drop 25-year-old Elizabeth Kenneally from the case against 40-year-old parolee Christopher LeBlanc.

The January indictment accuses Kenneally of being the getaway driver when LeBlanc demanded money from three suburban banks located inside grocery stores last fall.

Public defender James McHugh argues that police and the FBI had no grounds to arrest Kenneally when they found the pair outside a Delaware motel days later.

McHugh describes the Phoenixville woman as a single mother and high school dropout with no prior arrests. Her family had reported her missing.

The robberies netted about $5,000. LeBlanc has pleaded not guilty.
