Wanted person arrested at prison

A man wanted by authorities in New Jersey was arrested at the Carbon County prison earlier this month.

At 12:59 p.m. March 13, Nesquehoning Police Chief Sean Smith received a call from county prison warden Timothy Fritz that he received a fax from the Morris County Prosecutors Office in New Jersey requesting a detainer be placed on inmate Alan Daniel Kovacs, 26, of 3 Jenkins St., Stanhope, New Jersey.Smith went to the prison and spoke with Kovacs, who agreed to waive his Miranda Rights. Kovacs said he knew of the warrant and gave a written statement verifying that he was the person named in the warrant. He is wanted in New Jersey on drug charges. New Jersey will extradite Kovacs.Smith then filed a criminal complaint with the office of District Judge Casimir Kosciolek of Lansford, charging Kovacs with arrest before requisition, or fugitive from justice.
