The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met March 19 at it new location, the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St. The meeting was attended by 50 members, with President Melody Weicker conducting the business session.Secretary Ruthann Feane provided an inspirational reading, "God's World." New members Pat Fredeicks and Sandy Logan were welcomed, and Gladys Arner was added to the sick list.The seniors meet at 1 p.m. every Thursday. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The YMCA is handicap accessible.Older and bolderThe Salvation Army's Older and Bolder group is back in action, meeting at 10 a.m. Wednesdays, at the Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St. Meetings include a light luncheon. The April 1 meeting will be a covered dish affair.Upcoming meetings include a seminar on eye health, tips on personal protection, ways to avoid identity theft, movies, picnics and day trips.For more information or to join, call Dina at 570-668-0410.Master GardenersPenn State Master Gardeners of Schuylkill County is recruiting new volunteers. An informational meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Ag Center, 1202 Ag Center Drive, Pottsville. Potential volunteers will meet with current master gardeners who will explain volunteer duties, expectations and responsibilities. schuylkillmg@psu.edu.Community egg huntThe Tamaqua Community Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by the Preceptor Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, will be held at noon Saturday. The event will be held at the Howard Buehler Memorial (Bungalow) Park, rain or shine.The hunt is open to all children between the ages of 1 and 10 who live within the Tamaqua Area School District.In addition to the egg hunt, the Easter Bunny will make an appearance, and grand prizes will be awarded in each category.Zion LutheranZion Evangelical Lutheran Church offers a contemporary-style service at 5:30 p.m., on Saturdays. The service is held in the church social hall in an informal, welcoming setting. This Saturday's service will include Holy Communion and be followed by a time of food and fellowship, including a free, light lunch.Sunday worship services are held at 9 a.m.Orders are still being taken for the Easter pie sale. Choices include apple crumb, cherry and lemon sponge. Pick up will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 4.
