Dog abandoned on roadway, dies after being struck by vehicle

HANOVER TWP. - Police are investigating a report that a dog, abandoned on Hanover Street Saturday afternoon, died after it was later struck by a passing vehicle.

Police said John Polascik of Phillip Street, Nanticoke reported he was driving north on Hanover Street near Clarks Cross Road around 3:45 p.m. and struck the light gray Siberian husky-type dog that was standing in the roadway. The animal died from injuries. It had no collar or identification.

Around 6:20 p.m. Linda Kotch of Nanticoke arrived at police headquarters and reported that her friend saw a Siberian-husky type dog being thrown out of a blue vehicle traveling on Hanover Street. The witness followed the vehicle and obtained a license plate, police said.

Police said they were attempting to speak with the witness to continue the investigation.
