Community egg hunt

The Tamaqua Community Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by the Preceptor Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, will be held at noon March 28. The event will be held at the Howard Buehler Memorial (Bungalow) Park, rain or shine.The hunt is open to all children between the ages of 1 and 10 who live within the Tamaqua Area School District.In addition to the egg hunt, the Easter Bunny will make an appearance, and grand prizes will be awarded in each category.Senior citizensThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met March 12 at it new location, the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St. The meeting was attended by 65 members, with President Melody Weicker conducting the business session.Secretary Ruthann Feane provided an inspirational reading, "Wondrous Love." Feane and treasurer Penny Schlorf provided their reports, and Schlorf is now accepting dues for 2015.January and February birthdays will be celebrated at this week's meeting.Upcoming events include trips to Shady Maple and the Mohegan Sun.The meeting concluded with refreshments, cards and social games.The seniors meet at 1 p.m. every Thursday. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The YMCA is handicap accessible.Library book clubThe Tamaqua Public Library's next monthly book discussion for adults will be at 6 p.m. March 30.This month's selection is Moloka'i, written by first-time novelist Allen Brennert.The heroine of the book is 7-year-old Rachel Kalama, who contracts leprosy and is sent to live in a quarantine settlement on the Hawaiian Island of Moloka'i. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church.
