Roy Angst resigns from Panther board effective April 27

Roy E. Angst, an often outspoken member of Panther Valley School Board, announced his resignation from the board effective April 27.

The resignation date falls on his 88th birthday.Angst said "poor hearing and generally failing health" are the reasons for his resignation.He serves as legislative Pennsylvania School Board Association liaison and is chairman of the negotiating committee for the board regarding a teachers' contract.He said he has been attending board meetings for over 30 years. Besides being a board member, he previously attended as former part owner of Lansford Radio Station WLSH, a member of the media and as a citizen of the Panther Valley School District."It has been an honor to serve," Angst said.The board voted 8-0 to accept his resignation. Board President Jeffrey Markovich was absent.In another matter, it was announced that Kenneth Marx Jr., business manager, has obtained his master's degree in School District Leadership from Wilkes University.In other personnel matters:• The board approved the resignation for retirement of four elementary teachers at the end of the school year.They are Sandra Koch, Gwyneth Collevechio, Michele McConnon and Elizabeth Mussoline.John Williams, vice president of the board who presided at Wednesday's meeting, said six elementary teachers have resigned with an accumulative total of 140 years of experience. He personally thanked them for their dedicated service to the district.Superintendent Dennis R. Kergick added his personal congratulations to the retirees, stating he was proud "of their commitment" to the school district.• Linda Green was hired as a high school/middle school dishwasher effective March 13 for the 2014-2015 school year. She will work four hours per day at the contract rate of $11.85 per hour.• Kaitlyn Keich was hired as a short-term substitute at the middle school effective Feb. 13 and continuing until April 6 at the rate of $135 per day.• Christa Mantz was added to the list of substitute teachers for the 2014-2015 school year at the per diem rate of $90 per day for grades 4-8. She can teach all subjects for grades 4-6 and English Language Arts and Reading for grades 7 and 8.• Approved for attendance at conferences at a total cost of $620: Lisa Ogozalek, PSSA administrative training; Carla Blazosky and Maria Szczecina, STAR Benchmark Assessment reading/math; Janet Fisher, Pennsylvania Department of Education data summit; Sandra Michalik, collaborative with Carbon supervisors, and Courtney Delazio, algebra 1 networking.
