Coaldale police have filed charges against Kelly Lynn Brinker, 36, of 601 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, in connection with a Nov. 15, 2014 incident.

Police were dispatched to Route 209 in the area of Pappy's Mini Mart, at 8:42 p.m., for a motor vehicle accident. The caller said a vehicle struck two parked cars and the driver was attempting to leave the scene. When officers arrived, the suspect vehicle, a Chevrolet Impala, was straddling the center of the roadway, facing east. There was heavy front end damage and the air bag had deployed. The driver was still in the vehicle and identified as Brinker. The two parked cars were several hundred feet east of the Impala.Brinker told the officer she had been drinking at a bar in Tamaqua and was on her way home. She said she wasn't hurt and admitted taking several prescribed "behavioral" medications. There was a strong odor of alcohol on her breath. Her eyes were bloodshot and she was very unsteady on her feet. She was told she was being arrested for possible drunken driving and that an ambulance had been called to transport her to the hospital due to her condition. That's when she became uncooperative, screaming at the officer, attempting to push him away. She was placed in a Lansford squad car, which had barred windows in the back, due to her continuously kicking at the door and windows of the Coaldale police car.She was taken to St. Luke's Miners Hospital, Coaldale, where she continued to be unruly, fighting with the staff and the officers, and was then restrained.Blood tests indicate she had a blood-alcohol content of .253 percent, more than three times the legal limit of .08 percent. She was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, resisting arrest, hit and run, disregard of the traffic lane, careless driving and reckless driving.
