Tamaqua woman in crash Tuesday

A Tamaqua woman escaped injury when a vehicle slid into her lane of travel on a snow-covered road Tuesday. State police at Frackville said the crash occurred at 1:30 p.m. along Route 209 in New Philadelphia.

Troopers said Kyrsten E. Furman, 20, of Frackville, was driving a 2008 Pontiac G5 southbound and negotiating a left curve while Kimberly A. Steigerwalt, 45, of Tamaqua, was northbound negotiating a right curve, driving a 2011 Jeep Liberty.Troopers said Furman lost control of her vehicle due to the snow-covered roadway and it fishtailed, spun 180 degrees and slid into the northbound lane backward, where the front of Steigerwalt's Jeep Liberty struck the rear of the Pontiac.Furman and her passenger, Mark D. Furman, 50, of Frackville, and Steigerwalt were not injured. Both vehicles had to be towed.Assisting troopers were volunteers from the Good Intent Fire Company of New Philadelphia and Kaska Fire Company.Furman was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.
