Kindergarten registration

Registration for kindergarten classes in the Tamaqua Area School District, for the school year 2015-2016, will be held March 23, 24 and 25 at the Rush Elementary School and March 26 at the West Penn Elementary School. Registration hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at both schools.Registration packets are available at all three of the district's elementary schools and online at

www.tamaqua.K12.pa.us.Children residing within the Tamaqua Area School District who will reach the age of 5 before Sept. 1, 2015, are eligible to attend kindergarten classes.To register, call 570-668-3306, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and from 1-3 p.m. to schedule an appointment.Proof of residency, health records, original birth certificates and original Social Security cards will be required.Children will be evaluated by a classroom teacher, nurse and speech therapist.Sorority newsMembers of the Preceptor Alpha Upsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority didn't let February's winter weather slow them down.On Feb. 11, the chapter sponsored a Valentine's Day social for residents of St. Luke's Miners Hospital Geriatric Center, complete with crowning a king and queen.A dinner meeting was held Feb. 25 at La Dolce Casa Restaurant in Tamaqua, hosted by Patricia Burke. The program for the evening included a presentation of the creation and history of the jelly bean. During the business session, the annual Tamaqua Community Easter Egg Hunt was discussed. The hunt will be held March 28 at the Howard D. Buehler Park (Bungalow). Posters will be distributed and additional information will be provided closer to the date.Bethany ECThe Rev.
