Wilkes' Evans qualifies for D-III Wrestling Championships

Palmerton grad Josh Evans, a freshman at Wilkes University wrestling at 149-pounds captured third place at the NCAA East Regionals in Roanoke, Virginia over the weekend to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships to be held at the Giant Center in Hershey on March 13 and 14.

Evans, who transferred to Wilkes after spending the first semester at Central Michigan and finished the regular season with an 11-4 record, earned two one-point decision wins 5-4 and 6-5 in the first two rounds to setup a semifinal bout with No. 8 Derek Arnold of Ursinus. Evans would fall in 6:37 to Arnold who eventually won the title. He then posted an 8-4 decision win in the third place bout over Matthew Coppola of NYU to earn the NCAA bid.
