Schuylkill woman kills herself after a standoff with police

A Schuylkill County woman died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, state police at Schuylkill Haven said, following a standoff situation that occurred Monday in the borough of Auburn.

Troopers identified the woman as Ana Emelia Torres, 42, of Bear Creek Street.About 6:30 a.m. troopers were called to the Bear Creek Street area to a report of a suicidal person. Torres barricaded herself in the home and threatened to kill herself.Troopers, assisted by other agencies and officers in tactical gear and armored vehicles, responded and made numerous attempts to contact Torres.Police then entered the home and found Torres dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.She was pronounced dead at the scene by a member of the county's coroner's office.The area was blocked off by Auburn Fire Company volunteers. The street was reopened about 2:30 p.m.The investigation into the incident is continuing, troopers said.
