Two people are facing drug charges following an incident in Coaldale on Saturday.
At 3:29 p.m. officer Joseph Krebs was called to the area of 137 Sixth St., by a neighbor who said he believed there was drug activity going on in a vehicle parked in the area. On scene Krebs found the vehicle in question and observed four persons in the vehicle.Two of the persons were identified as the driver, Brandon Caleb Minnich, 19, of 301 Oak St., Walnutport, and front seat passenger, Kyle Conklin, 18, of 242 S. Walnut St., Slatington.As Krebs approached the vehicle to speak to the driver he could detect the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. As he spoke to Minnich he noticed Conklin appeared to have something in his lap that he was trying to hide and a scared look on his face.Through the course of the investigation Krebs found vegetable matter, a silver grinder and other evidence of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.Minnich and Conklin were both arrested. Both were charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said three bags of suspected marijuana were found in the vehicle. One weighed 3.8 grams, another weighed 3.9 grams and a wrapper rolled with suspected marijuana weighed 1.5 grams.Tamaqua police assisted in the matter.
