Drug charges land woman in prison

Valentine's Day wasn't a happy holiday for one Tamaqua woman, who ended the day in prison.

A Tamaqua officer was on routine patrol at 5:06 p.m. when he saw Monica Russop, 48, of 216 Owl Creek Road, in the area of Pitt and Franklin streets. The officer was aware of outstanding warrants for Russop's arrest, issued by Coaldale Police and the Carbon County Sheriff's Office, and placed her under arrest. She was taken to the police station, where a search was conducted.In her purse, there was a large quantity of wax baggies. Four baggies, stamped with the letters "OK," contained a brown substance which field tested positive for heroin. There were also six hypodermic needles and a spoon with a burnt residue in the purse.Russop was transported to the Carbon County Correctional Facility on the bench warrant.Tamaqua Police have charged her with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
