A Carbon County family is homeless today after a wind-swept fire destroyed their home in Lower Towamensing Township. 

The fire was first reported by the homeowner about 11:30 a.m. at 149 Wintergreen Road. When the first firefighters arrived on scene they reported smoke pouring from the ranch style single family wood frame dwelling. Firemen were hampered by heavy winds and sub-freezing temperatures. Heavy winds blowing from the west sent the dense smoke directly into the fire apparatus lined along the roadway. Fire companies from Trachsville, Aquashicola and Franklin township battled the blaze.
