PGC adds tracts to SGLs system
Two tracts of land totaling 5.38 acres in Moore and Lehigh townships, Northampton County, have been added to State Game Lands 168. Approval of the acquisitions was made at the January meeting of the Pennsylvania Game Commission board of game commissioners.
A 3.06-acre property in Moore Township was purchased for $8,000 from the Game Fund. This tract is mostly forested with mixed oak, poplar, black gum, birch and red maple and connects two parcels of SGLs 168 by joining a detached parcel to the main portion, providing critical access into a portion that has had limited access from Smith Gap Road.A 2.32-acre tract in Lehigh Township was purchased for $5,000 from the Game Fund. This tract is mostly forested with mixed oak, poplar, black gum, birch and red maple and will connect two parcels of SGLs 168 by joining a detached parcel to the main portion.This property provides critical access into a portion that has limited access. Access is through Timberline Road.In Washington Township, Lehigh County, a 3.35-acre tract that adjoins State Game Lands 217 was donated by Nancy Becker. This new system went into operation last week, and one of the key new features is the ability for customers to make a state park reservation on a mobile device.First launched in 2006, features of the new update include better campsite descriptions, easier site navigation, an upgraded map view, mobile reservation capabilities, availability notifications, a simplified check-out process and increased security. This improved system allows for searches of available campsites, picnic pavilions and other facilities on-line and then make reservations at Pennsylvania's 120 state parks.DCNR has a one-year contract within renewal options for an additional four years with ACTIVE Network for the cloud-based reservation system.
